AP Chemistry Exam Date: Thursday, May 6, 2027
The official date, straight from College Board, plus how the exam actually breaks down and how to use the time you've got left.
How the exam breaks down
AP Chemistry is a hybrid digital exam: multiple choice is done on College Board's Bluebook app, and free response is handwritten in a paper booklet. A calculator is allowed for the whole exam, and you're given an equations sheet and reference tables, so nothing has to be memorized cold.
| Section | Format | Time | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Section I | 60 multiple choice questions | 90 min | 50% |
| Section II | 3 long FRQs (10 pts each) + 4 short FRQs (4 pts each) | 105 min | 50% |
What to do with the time before May 6
Whatever the calendar says right now, the same three things move the score: working real problems every week, getting specific feedback on where the reasoning actually breaks down, and not waiting until April to find the gaps.
That's the entire premise of MindSpire Lab's group program — three live classes a week with Faridah Mohammed, working through problems together in real time, with personalized feedback on every submission in between.
A track record, not a guess
7+ years as an AP Chemistry educator, 500+ students taught, and 65% of students score a 5 on the exam.
